Madelyn was doing her usual Saturday chores when there was a knock on the door. Two young boys were in need of a ride home. Madelyn was eating a pickle and the boys eyes followed every move. She sensed they were hungry. She asked if they wanted a pickle too. They enthusiastically said yes. She opened her cabinets to get a new jar. The boys eyes widened and they said. "You have a lot of food. We don't have any." So she made them sandwiches to take home to their families.
During the week, children on the rez get food from programs at school. Free breakfast and lunch gives them proper nutrition and keeps them from going hungry. On weekends, however, there are no programs and children are often without food.
First of all I would like to thank you Olav and the Indian Support Association for all of the support you have given to Tusweca Tiospaye and all of our programs and events. It is greatly appreciated and helps us to make our programs and events possible for our children and our communities.I am writing today to ask for your support with the 4th Annual Tusweca Tiospaye Powwow and the 5th Annual Tusweca Tiospaye Lakota Hand-games. Both will take place April 9th and 10th in Pine Ridge, SD. Help us to provide our children and our community with a safe, healthy, cultural event where we can come together in unity and celebration of our Lakota way of life.
Lila Wopila Tanka for all that you do. Mike CarlowTusweca Tiospaye

Le Anpetu Waste. Today is a good day. First and foremost I am greatly appreciative for all that you do for the Native people(s) of Turtle Island to live and survive in this day and age. You are truly a blessing to all of us who are in the same plight to bring unity and healing to our nation(s) more importantly, that to which we all share with one another; our Earth Mother to live.
It snowed again last night. Winter is far from over on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Grandma wraps herself up in a thin blanket in an attempt to keep warm in her modest trailer. I few feet from her, her grandaughter holds her infant to her chest to keep him from being cold. They ran out of propane a few days ago and can't afford to get more. A few houses away, a family of 5 have run out too. After dinner, they all get into one bed and tell stories until it is time to sleep, hoping that they will keep each other warm. These are good people who are trying their best to merely survive the brutal winters on the rez. Will you please make a small donation so we can help them get the propane they need for heat.
